Muslims Australia – AFIC extends its deepest condolences and prayers to the victims and families of those who have been impacted by the latest atrocities in Sri Lanka.

Once again, the world is confronted by the actions of those who have no regard for the sanctity of human life and who wish nothing more than to sow hatred and fear.

We stand with the people of Sri Lanka during this terrible time and the Sri Lankan community in Australia who will have many members touched by these acts of terror. To our Christian friends we grieve with you that at a time of prayer, worship and reflection, your sacred places were so terribly invaded and innocent lives taken when they should have been most safe.

Muslims Australia President, Dr Rateb Jneid, stated “Just as we saw in Christchurch, we see again innocent people of faith targeted at their most vulnerable time. It doesn’t matter if you are Muslim, Christian, Jewish or any other faith you have a right to practice your religion and recognise your most holy days without fear of your life. This targeting of places of worship is a terrible and heinous crime and we hope that the perpetrators, regardless of who they are or what their motivation was, are swiftly brought to justice.”

We stand in solidarity with people of all faiths, cultures and nationalities against such barbaric acts and will provide whatever support and assistance we are able to, to those within the Australian community, who have been impacted by this tragedy.

People of good will across the globe must continue to stand firm in the face of such atrocities and not allow those who seek to pull as apart to succeed.
