FACILTIES FOR ISLAMIC EDUCATION IN THE LOCALITY

In Australia we are blessed by strong government support at both State Government and Commonwealth Government levels for private education facilities.

Per capita subsidization is given to primary and secondary students, capital works are heavily subsidized and there is great freedom in curriculum development. Arabic and Islamic Studies can be freely taught.

AFIC has a highly skilled school establishment consultant available to the Muslim community who can seek out funding, plan school establishment and prepare the necessary documentation to get new schools established.

Large numbers of Islamic schools are being established by various Islamic groups and there is some concern that the lack of planning will eventually create a crisis in Islamic education in this country. It is important that offshore funding agencies should recognize the importance of planning and that they should have the courtesy to involve the national organization of Australian Muslims before involving themselves in the funding of schools which may not meet the needs of the wider Muslim Ummah in Australia.
