02 August 2005 AUSTRALIAN MUSLIMS MOURN KING’S PASSINGS The President of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, Dr Ameer Ali today expressed deep sadness of the Muslims of Australia at the passing yesterday of His Majesty King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, King of Saudi Arabia and the custodian of the two Holy Mosques. Dr Ali said, that King Fahd was an international figure in global and Middle Eastern politics and was responsible for major developments in the Kingdom and was a person of great wisdom and generosity. He provided assistance to newly emerging Muslim communities throughout the world and would be fondly remembered for the assistance his government and he personally provided to the Muslims of Australia in the past 20 years. Dr Ali added that, the Malek Fahd Islamic School in Sydney, which is the largest Islamic School in Australia, was named after the King in appreciation of his personal gift towards the purchase of the school site. Dr Ali went on to say while the late King will be missed, his successor King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz was also well known for his deep interest in the west. Dr Ali said that he was extending the condolences of the Muslims of Australia to the Royal family.
