11 January 2009 Muslims Demand Action The President and the Executive Committee of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC), in their meeting today had urged the International Community and the Australian Government to intervene and stop the continuing of the brutal Israeli Aggression. Having attacked the UN aid convoy in Gaza as well as other UN supervised installations Israel has now ignored the UN Security Council’s call for an immediate ceasefire and is continuing with the offensive. These actions should be deplored in the strongest terms said AFIC President Mr Ikebal Patel. The President and the AFIC Executive Committee on behalf of the Muslims of Australia call for an immediate end to this brutal assault on the vulnerable Palestinian people of Gaza and calls both Hamas and the State of Israel to adopt the UN Security Council’s call for a ceasefire. They concluded by appealing to the international community including the Australian Government to put pressure on Israel to end this invasion of Gaza as history has demonstrated that war has never produced peace. On the contrary, the offensive will only inflame hatred of the State of Israel while doing nothing to protect the lives of Israelis. The international community cannot continue to ignore the plight of the Palestinian people any longer and have to act now under its international humanitarian and moral obligations.
