22 July 2009 – Australian Muslims Condemn Jakarta Bombings
The President of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC), Mr Ikebal Adam Patel said in a statement that Muslim Australians condemned bombings in the Indonesian capital which has taken the lives of some innocent persons as well as injuring others. He extended sympathies to the families of the deceased victims.
Mr Patel added that ordinary Muslims all over the world condemned such acts of violence and do not regard such acts
as legitimate cause for those seeking justice and freedom. He said that Muslims should not feel helpless in any situations
and that they should adopt peaceful and rational means to address any issues of concern. “Attacks against innocent
persons is abhorrent to Islam and those who engage in this behaviour stand condemned,” adding that people of goodwill
and faith must double their efforts and resources to fight against such acts of barbarism and inhumanity.
Mr Patel urged the Australian Government to do all in its power to assist all the victims of this tragedy and the
Indonesian Government to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
